Buransh Retreat at Ojaswi Himalayan Resort, looking out at the Himalayan range
Why up here

The fifteenth of August
reads differently
at 7,500 feet.

Nanda Devi and the Panchachuli range stand on the horizon and the cloud sits below you. Everything the day is supposed to feel like, it actually feels like here.

The anthem carries

Sung on an open deck at dawn with nothing between you and the range but weather.

Freedom tastes Kumaoni

Bhatt ki Churkani, Gahat ki Dal, Bal Mithai, Singodi. Food that belongs to these hills.

Three days, not three hours

In on the 14th evening, out on the 17th. Long enough for the walk, the falls, and one unplanned afternoon.

Included in the rate

Nothing on this list costs extra.

Every room looks straight out at the peaks, and waking up to that is the whole trip. The kitchen was the other highlight — fresh, homely, and never repetitive across four days.

Green everywhere, flowers everywhere. It feels like Scotland dropped into Kumaon. The rooms are cosy and well kept, and the kids’ area meant we actually got to relax.

Sitting right at the top of the hill gives it a genuine 360° view. The infinity pool at sunset was the moment the whole family agreed on. Staff were unfailingly warm.

The forest walk to Mukteshwar temple is a must. We came back to a spotless room and a big, bright dining room. The care that goes into the gardens shows everywhere.

Before you drive up

The practical bits.

How long is the drive from Delhi?

About 8 hours for roughly 350 km, via Hapur, Moradabad, Rampur and Haldwani. Leave by 6 AM and you will make the 2 PM check-in comfortably. The last 30 km from Bhowali is hill road, so allow extra in rain.

Can you pick us up from Kathgodam?

Yes. Kathgodam is the nearest railhead, about 2 hours out, and a return pickup is ₹4,500 per sedan for up to four guests. Pantnagar is the nearest airport, roughly 3 hours away. Add it to your enquiry and we will arrange it.

What is the weather like in mid-August?

Late monsoon. Days sit around 18–24°C and nights drop to 12–15°C. Expect cloud and short heavy showers, with the clearest views just after rain and at first light. Bring a light woollen, a waterproof, and shoes with grip for the trail walk.

Will the flag hoisting happen if it rains?

Yes. If the deck is wet, the ceremony moves to the covered pavilion beside it — same time, same anthem. We have done it in rain before.

What is the cancellation policy?

Free cancellation up to 8 August. 50% refund between 9 and 12 August. No refund after 12 August, though we can usually move the booking to another date within six months, subject to availability.

Is this suitable for young children?

It is built for it. There is a Mother’s Care Centre, a kids’ play area, an arcade zone, and a painting corner during Freedom Fest. Childcare is available on request and children under 6 stay free. The Ojaswi Family Suite and Himalayan Suite are both two-bedroom.

Is the Kumaoni thali vegetarian?

The core thali — Bhatt ki Churkani, Gahat ki Dal, Kaapa, Jhangore ki Kheer — is entirely vegetarian. Non-vegetarian dishes run alongside on the multi-cuisine buffet. Jain and vegan plates on 24 hours’ notice.

Are pets allowed?

Yes, Ojaswi is pet friendly. Tell us in your enquiry so we can put you in a ground-floor room with a lawn — Jungle Retreat or Executive Jacuzzi work best.

How do we find you on Google Maps?

Search for Sitla rather than Mukteshwar. The Mukteshwar pin drops you in the town, about 15 minutes past our gate on a road you would rather not reverse down.
